Jugaad (alternatively Juggaar) is a colloquial Hindi (Devanagari: जुगाड़) and Punjabi word which when roughly translated means, “hack”. It could also refer to an innovative fix or a simple work-around, a solution that bends the rules, or a resource that can be used in such a way. It is also often used to signify creativity—to make existing things work, or to create new things with existing resources.
Food is a collection of memories. It is something that satisfies our cravings and soothes our soul, and certain foods and phenomena are deeply, inextricably intertwined in our memory.
For us, some of our greatest memories over the last fifteen years have been formed over a warm meal – especially the ones we’ve created over these breakfast foods, shared and served before opening hours with our nearest and dearest friends on lazy weekend mornings.
A warm cup of chai or iced coffee accompanied by Aloo Poori & Halwa instantly transports us to our childhoods in New Delhi as “Tom and Jerry” on ‘doordarshan’ – Indian television would play softly in the background and we’d get ready for a blissful weekend day of relaxing, eating and meeting with friends and family and sometimes doing a whole lot of nothing.
We hope that with this ‘Jugaad’ Menu, we’re able to share these memories (and make new ones) with you. After all – after fifteen years in this community you’ve all become our friends and family too.
